Small venues, connection to fans, charity, and other reasons to host an intimate concert
There are plenty of reasons to ditch large, crowded shows for smaller, more intimate affairs. Check out our top ten inside.
Reason 1. Scattered fanbase.
Internet allows musicians to distribute their music and build a fanbase without leaving the house. It’s a good thing until you want to play a live show. That’s when things get tricky.
Your fanbase might not only be scattered all over the planet, it might not have any hotspots where you could sell a thousand tickets to your show. A way out of this conundrum is simple — just host smaller, intimate shows for 25–50 people.
Reason 2. Preview shows.
It can be difficult for an artist to present their new art to a large audience, who might now be very gentle in their judgment and reactions. Playing a preview show for a handful of dedicated fans to test out new music, preview a new album or try out an image overhaul can be a great tool in your live performance set.
Reason 3. Themed events.
If you want to throw your fans an unusual party, something themed or take them on an adventure, your attendance number will be naturally limited. Don’t be afraid to try out exotic locations and fun formats — not only do these shows take you and your fans out of the old boring concert type of events, they also create excellent social media and even news events.
Photos and videos from the show are bound to reach the widest circle of your fans, local music lovers, and the general audience.
Reason 4. Additional tour stops.
Do your fans keep leaving messages under your social media updates and videos inviting you to their town? Check the map — maybe your tour route allows for a quick stop at a smaller location where your fans would love to see you. Book a tiny venue, a local art gallery, a hall or even just a house to host the intimate concert as part of your tour.
Reason 5. Charity.
If you want to raise funds for your favorite charity, the exclusivity of your event, even if the tickets are pricey, will draw in the benefactors and local socialites. This way, your event will become more high-profile.
